Map the whole flow first
Automating a single step often moves the bottleneck rather than removing it. Mapping the full journey, from request to completion, shows where hand-offs, rework and waiting time actually occur.
Design exceptions deliberately
Every process has cases that do not fit the rules. Give them an explicit path, a named owner and a time limit so that automation never hides work that still needs a person.
Share identifiers and contracts
Connected operations depend on systems agreeing on what a customer, order or case is. Shared identifiers and documented integration contracts make workflows reliable and easier to change.
Measure after release
Track cycle time, quality and rework before and after automation. The numbers show whether the change helped and where to improve next.
